Watch: Man Tries To Scale 30 Ft Border Wall To Enter Illegally, Realizes Big Mistake Too Late

I’m not sure how much of the new ‘wall’ on the southern border has gone up yet, but this looks pretty new to me. Add to that its height which is 30 ft. and it’s a good bet it’s part of President Trump’s new ‘wall’ to keep illegal immigrants out of the country. This section of wall is located near Calexico, California. That’s east of San Diego. The wall is built high enough and well enough that it is a significant deterrent to those trying to gain illegal entry. There are far easier places to cross over still, although probably not for long if Trump and Americans, in general, get their way.

A man who evidently couldn’t wait to cross the border via an easier method decided to scale that wall. He realized what a big mistake he made far too late. That was a bad move on his part. He began the arduous climb but then slipped and fell from the 30-foot wall. He was severely injured and broke both legs. Ouch. He’s lucky it didn’t cost him his life as well. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (ICE) announced the incident last week. They say he also possibly injured his back in the fall.

After border patrol agents found the guy, they called in paramedics and fire department personnel. The man was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Palm Springs. They found the guy hiding behind Gran Plaza Outlet Mall. He must have crawled there. Double ouch. Positioned just behind the mall is the U.S.-Mexico border, where a massive wall separates the U.S. from Mexicali, the Mexican city on the opposite side of the wall.

“U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Border Patrol Station encountered a severely injured man behind the Gran Plaza Outlet Mall at 9 p.m., Sunday evening,” CPB reported in a press release. “EMS established that the man has sustained bilateral femur fracture to both legs and a possible back injury. The man was taken by REACH helicopter to a medical center in Palm Springs,” the release also stated.

Here’s the complete statement from U.S. Customs and Border Protection:

“EL CENTRO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Border Patrol Station encountered a severely injured man behind the Gran Plaza Outlet Mall at 9 p.m., Sunday evening.

“The man injured himself after falling from the International Border Wall, which stands 30 feet tall, when he entered the United States illegally.

“When Border Patrol agents arrived on scene, they quickly determined that the man required immediate medical attention and provided aid and comfort and called Emergency Medical Services (EMS). EMS professionals and fire department personnel arrived shortly after to assess the man’s injuries.

“EMS established that the man has sustained bilateral femur fracture to both legs and a possible back injury. The man was taken by REACH helicopter to a medical center in Palm Springs.

“The El Centro Sector Border Patrol reminds the public of the dangers involved in attempting to cross illegally into the United States. The newly established border wall system is 30 feet tall and attempting to climb up or down could result in potentially life-threatening injuries.”

The whole incident was caught on a security video. It shows him falling from the top of the wall and initially lying motionless. I hate to sound insensitive, but this is a great instance of the wall actually doing its job. U.S. Customs and Border Protection has since issued a reminder about the “dangers while crossing illegally,” trying to climb the new 30-foot high border wall section in Calexico. According to WNYW-TV, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is using the incident as a teaching moment, dissuading future attempts to illegally cross the border — especially over a 30-foot high fence. Just wait until that wall stretches much further. Of course, they’ll try and go under it, but that can be stopped as well. The man has not been identified yet.

Unfortunately, for the American taxpayer, we will be footing this guy’s hospital bill until he can be deported. Spokesman Carlos Pitones says the U.S. government typically pays medical expenses for people who are injured crossing the border illegally and they are deported after recovery. I hope he makes a full recovery so he can go back to his friends and warn them not to do what he did. The government is replacing a 2-mile stretch of barrier made from recycled metal scraps and landing mat with the new bollard-style wall. Trump is right… it’s a big, beautiful wall.

The truth of the matter is that the wall built this way works as it is intended to. Put some security on there and it will work even better. This guy found out the hard way that trying to cross illegally into the U.S. can put your life at risk. And it was painful.
